It's an event that has been around since 2005 that many have never participated in. It will be World Naked Gardening Day this Saturday, May 1st!

If you decide to participate, there are a few things to consider...

Weather: Will it be warm enough to shed your clothing and head outside to work in the garden? The Fox 17 forecast is calling for a chilly start on Saturday, with temperatures dropping down into the 30s and maybe areas of frost. Temperatures will rebound nicely getting into the 60s under partly cloudy to partly sunny skies. With some sunshine...don't forget your sunscreen. If you are naked, you are going to need more sunscreen than usual because you have more skin to cover!

Bugs: Along with the sunscreen you might want to add some bug spray. Exposing more areas of your body just leaves even more interesting locations for mosquitoes to bite. And then there are any other insects you might encounter in your garden.

The Law: Here in Michigan you can get ticketed or arrested for "indecent exposure" if you are naked in public. This a misdemeanor and you could find yourself having to register as a sex offender.

Gardening Tools: Think about the tools and equipment you use in your yard. Things like the lawnmower, string trimmers, hedge trimmers, shovels, rakes, chainsaws, and pruning shears. All of those things are pretty sharp and dangerous. Do you really want to be naked with all of those things? Maybe that would actually be more of World Naked Yard Word Day. This is only World Day Gardening Day, so perhaps it is more of just planting a few flowers in your yard.

I live on ten wooded acres in the middle of nowhere. I have no neighbors nearby. I gave this a try a few years ago. You can read more about that here (Caution: there will be pictures!)

If you do decide to participate, here are 11 Things You Shouldn't Do on World Naked Gardening Day (Caution: Once again there will be pictures!)

If you want to literally "hang out" naked, there are a few other (and legal) options. Here in west Michigan there are two nudist resorts you could visit. Forest Hills Nudist Resort is located in Saranac. There is also Turtle Lake Nudist Resort in Union City (which is just south of Battle Creek). I'm sure there are some special guidelines due to COVID-19, so be sure to check ahead of time. Imagine that...shedding all your clothes but still having to wear a mask! Are you truly "naked" if you are wearing facial covering? Just wondering.
