A 27-year-old woman was taken to the hospital after being shot in a drive-by shooting in Battle Creek around 11:45a.m. Tuesday.

The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that Latesha Bills was shot once in the back outside her home at 96 W. Goguac St. at the intersection of Washington Avenue.

According to police, Bills had been outside her house when a white car passed. A man standing up through the sun roof began firing.

Police do not believe Bills was the intended target.

Bill's boyfriend, Jalil Cross, 25, who was inside the house at the time of the shooting, told the Enquirer he believes the target was Bill's brother, who was not at home.

The car was later found at a residence home on Arthur Street. Police are unsure how the people in the car are connected to the house.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information to call Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
