Who Would You Like To See At Upheaval 2023?

I posed the question on the GRD Facebook page, who would you like to see at Upheaval 2023? Here are the results based on those who nominated bands.

Upheaval 2023

No Disturbed will not be playing Upheaval 2023 but yes there will be a 3rd year of the festival to return to Belknap Park in downtown Grand Rapids. Keep your ears on 979 GRD and your eyes on the GRD app for some information about Upheaval 2023 in the next 30 days or so.

I do want to thank you for coming to Upheaval 2022 and 2021. By you and your friends and family getting tickets and supporting the show, you have created the legs the festival needs to grow.

I will tell you, in order to make this festival grow, we all have to spread the word and get more and more people to come. The reason is, that the more that come, the bigger the lineups can be. Yes, Upheaval had a great start in 2021, and 2022 was even bigger. We have room for 40,000 people each day and when we get there, that is when it's possible for Metallica, Tool, Red Hot Chili Peppers, AC/DC, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Guns n Roses, and more.

Fans Nominate Bands for Upheaval 2023

I do want to put out a disclaimer, just because these bands were nominated doesn't mean they will be at Upheaval in 2023. There are a lot of variables from routing, budget, and availability that goes into creating a show. I will tell you this much, I will pass on your suggestions to the powers that be.

I personally when through every post with a piece of paper and wrote down all of the suggestions for bands for Upheaval 2023 and this is who the fans nominated:

Shinedown had the most votes of any band by far. I know they were just here in Grand Rapids and prior to the pandemic played here almost every year but people love them and the people have spoken.

Godsmack came in at a strong 2nd place and they have a new album and tour coming in 2023 so they are a possibility.

Avenged Sevenfold came in right behind Godsmack and they too have a new album and tour brewing for 2023.

It surprised me how many fans nominated Seether over much larger bands for Upheaval 2023. Great choice West Michigan because Seether is great in concert and always delivers.

Slipknot was another fan favorite but I don't know if we have enough stage for them...yet...but never say never.

Papa Roach was another band that came in strong with fan nominations. I have to agree on this one as well. Frontman Jacoby Shaddix knows how to fire up a crowd and loves to play festivals.

In This Moment was not far behind Papa Roach on the voting and would be a great mainstage band at Upheaval someday.

With all the talk about the return of Pantera with Phil Anselmo, and Rex Brown and honoring Dimebag and Vinnie Paul are Zakk Wylde and Charlie Bennante, it wasn't a shocker to see so many nominations for this lineup to possibly perform at Upheaval.

With songs like Popular Monster, Zombiefied, and Voices in My Head, it's no wonder that so many fans nominated Falling in Reverse.

Michigan's very own I Prevail had a nice showing in the fan nominations for the Upheaval 2023 lineup.

Well, those were the top 10 to receive nominations. The next 10 were Ice Nine Kills, Five Finger Death Punch, The Pretty Reckless, Tool, Volbeat, Sevendust, Halestorm, Killswitch Engage, Metallica, and Badflower.

There were lots more that were nominated but great job on your choices of bands. We will have to wait and see what Upheaval 2023 has in store for West Michigan.
