Some Wendy's in the U.S. have stopped serving their signature square hamburgers due to supply chain issues during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the New York Times, "hundreds" of Wendy's across the US are out of beef.

The Daily Mail reports that beef shortages at Wendy's locations in California, South Carolina, and Kentucky were reported on Monday.

Wendy's customers shared about the shortage on social media, referencing the fast food chain's slogan from the 80s: "Where's the beef?"

Grocery chains Costo, Kroger, and Wegmans also recently announced they'd be temporarily reducing the amount of meat that shoppers can purchase due to demand.

CNN reports that many meat suppliers in the U.S. have closed because workers are falling ill from Covid-19. One analyst tells CNN they estimate nearly one in five of Wendy's restaurants are currently out of beef.

Wendy's said in a statement Tuesday,

“It is widely known that beef suppliers across North America are currently facing production challenges. We continue to supply hamburgers to all of our restaurants, with deliveries two or three times a week, which is consistent with normal delivery schedules. However, some of our menu items may be temporarily limited at some restaurants in this current environment. We’re working diligently to minimize the impact to our customers and restaurants, and continue to work with our supplier partners to monitor this closely."
