On Saturday, July 22nd, 2017, the U.S. Navy commissioned the nation’s newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier...the U.S.S. Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78).

The carrier features the latest and best technology and features. However, here is one thing that is missing. It's something you would expect to see when the Navy is composed of 82% men.

So what won't you find on the U.S.S Gerald R. Ford?

The new aircraft carrier has 23 new or modified systems that help distinguish the Gerald R. Ford from aircraft carriers of the older Nimitz-class. But one thing you won't find are any urinals!

For the first time, the new aircraft carrier has bathrooms that are all gender neutral...utilizing flush toilets and stalls. There is not a single urinal to be found.

What is the reason behind this move? The Navy said eliminating urinals has advantages for current and future operations. By making every bathroom accessible to all of the ship's sailors -- of either sex -- it will be more convenient. The bathrooms can be used by either gender. That means the Navy can reassign the bathroom and living quarters without having to make any design changes.

So store this information somewhere in your brain. You know that some day it will be a trivia question somewhere!

"Alex, I'll take Aircraft Oddities for $200 please."
