Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson is my new hero. Giving up more than 20 years, he darn near beat a college football player doing push ups.

Michigan Players Are Touring The State With Coach Jim Harbaugh

The tour kicked off in Flint on Thursday, and while there they visited the Genesee County Jail, handing out meals to prisoners.

It was there that Genesee County Sheriff Swanson challenged Michigan special teams ace Caden Kolesar, son of UM legend John Kolesar to a contest to see who could do the most pushups.

I would give the win to Caden, but Chris held his own, even though his form was way off near the end.

C'mon, Sheriff, get that chest on the floor!

Swanson invited the team to the jail to show how his IGNITE program was transforming prisoners. Swanson began the IGNITE program after public demonstrations in the wake of the George Floyd murderer back in 2020.

You may remember his act of reaching out to ask the protesters what they wanted from him back in June of 2020.

“You are an inspiration to people,” Swanson said while introducing the players, not realizing how much of an inspiration he was to all of us.

“You’ve got a talent and you’ve got a platform that most people never have. You’re champions, and people watch you all over the world. You have the talent; you have the ability to reach people. You can inspire people.”

Man, I wish I had half of that dude's energy!

The Michigan Football Summer Trip will continue into next week with stops here in Grand Rapids this weekend, where they'll stop at the Gerald R. Ford Museum and along the lakeshore with a beach day in Grand Haven. Also on the itinerary, stops in Traverse City and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in Munising. Along the way, the players will be performing acts of public service in the communities where they stop.
