
It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas! Tree Lighting Downtown Grand Rapids is Tonight
Downtown Grand Rapids is ringing in the holidays!
When is the Annual Tree Lighting Downtown Grand Rapids?
Each year, a huge Christmas tree goes up near Rosa Parks Circle downtown Grand Rapids.
A few weeks back, a 40-foot Concolor Fir arrived in downtown Grand Rapids from Dutchman Tree Farms in Manton, Mich. Soon it will be strung with 40,000 lights!
The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting downtown Grand Rapids in 2022 is Friday, Dec. 2, 5p.m. to 7p.m.
The all-ages event takes place along Monroe Center St. NW, between Monroe Ave. NW and Ottawa Ave. NW, near the Grand Rapids Art Museum.
The 40-foot tall Christmas tree will be lit at approximately 5:45p.m.

It's more than holiday lights!
This year’s event includes free s’mores, hot chocolate, hot tea, and snacks.
You'll also find cultural booths highlighting how holidays are celebrated around the world from

- Fiesta Mexicana
- Asian – Pacific Festival
Plus entertainment from:
- Girls Choral Academy
- Western Michigan University Ice Skating Team
- Golden Tiger Kung Fu
- Grand Rapids Sled Wings Adaptive Hockey
- The Salvation Army Brass Band.
Gilda’s Club- LaughFest, Festival of the Arts, Grand Rapids Public Library, Experience GR, ArtPrize, and City of Grand Rapids Customer Service and Innovation (311) are also hosting different family activities, arts and crafts, and giveaways during the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting.
You'll also be able to meet and take pictures with the Nutcracker characters from the Grand Rapids Ballet, Whoville characters, Crash from the West Michigan Whitecaps, and Griff from Grand Rapids Griffins
Plus the City’s Public Works, Water, Fire and Police departments will be on hand to show off their vehicles.
Food trucks Dine Out Dawgs and Patty Matters will be on-site.
And you can't forget the Clauses! Santa and Mrs. Claus will make an appearance to offer free photos for kids and families.
Can I Watch Grand Rapids Christmas Tree Lighting on TV?
If you can't make it downtown this Friday evening for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, Wood TV 8 will be showing the event live.
