Want to Take a ‘Little’ Getaway? A New Tiny House Resort is Opening in West Michigan
The tiny house trend has been growing in popularity in recent years, with TV shows like "Tiny House Hunters" and "Tiny House Nation". If you've dreamed of downsizing and want to give small-scale living a try - there's a new tiny house resort opening in West Michigan.
New Tiny House Hotel Opening in Muskegon
MLive reports that a "contained oasis" with landscaping, tiny front porches and communal fire pits, is coming to Muskegon’s Lakeside district.
A group of ten tiny vacation homes will be located at the corner of Lakeshore Drive and Moon Street. Wonderland Distilling, The Pierogi Shack, Marine Tap Room, and Lakeside Emporium candy store are all nearby.
According to MLive, the Muskegon City Commission recently gave approval for the resort.
This isn't the first hotel venture for the owners of Tiny Digs Muskegon LLC, the Werstra family. They opened their first tiny house hotel in Portland, Oregon seven years ago. Originally from Michigan, they moved to the west coast after their son relocated there.
Co-owner Kim Werstra tells MLive,
A lot of people come because they’re curious about tiny houses.
And that she enjoys giving each home it's own theme and decorating the small spaces with flea market finds,
There are a lot of cute and themed items in them. It’s fun to go out and try to find something unique and different for inside of them.
What to Expect at the "Tiny Digs' Resort in Muskegon
Each tiny house at the resort is 212-square-feet, and will come with its own kitchenette, bathroom with shower, deck, awning, electrical and sewer service, and room for 2-3 adults to sleep comfortably, MLive reports.
The resort is currently being constructed, and while some may be ready for rental later this year, the Werstras say all ten should be ready to go by summer 2023.
While social media has not been set up for the tiny home hotel in Muskegon (it doesn't officially have a name yet), you can check out more about the Werstra's Portland resort here and follow them on Facebook for updates.
