I missed this story back in 2014: 27-year-old Canadian man, Kai Xu, was arrested for repeatedly entering Michigan and buying and shipping thousands of turtles to China. He was once caught at the Detroit-Windsor border with 51 turtles taped to his legs and groin under his sweatpants.

Do you know the saying "Necessity is the mother of invention?" Well, this turtle had the need. And a veterinarian was there to help.

When Gamera, an African spurred tortoise,  had to have his left front leg amputated because of a tissue disorder, the vets at at Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine came up a novel way to keep the little guy mobile. They took advantage of the reptile’s lower shell, and glued an office chair swivel wheel to the area where Gamera’s leg used to be.
