Tuesday the Detroit Red Wings made it official: Jeff Blashill, coach of the Grand Rapids Griffins for the past 3 seasons, is the new head coach of the Wings. That very night Blashill was invited to throw out the first pitch at the Detroit Tigers game, bumping the previously scheduled ceremonial first pitcher, Lions' coach Jim Caldwell.

The Jeff Blashill era is about to begin in Detroit, as the Red Wings have called a press conference for Tuesday, June 9th, to introduce him as the team's next head coach.

The Grand Rapids Griffins made a valiant effort for the Calder Cup in 2015, making it to the Western Conference Finals, just two years after winning it all. The efforts of head coach Jeff Blashill have not been unnoticed by the Detroit Red Wings.
