Seventy Credit Card Skimmers Found in Michigan in Past Year
It seems at least once a month a new credit card skimmer is uncovered at a Michigan gas station.
In June 2016 alone, skimmers were found on Plainfield Avenue in Grand Rapids, also on 68th Street in GR, and on Port Sheldon St. in Jenison.
MDARD says their inspectors, gas station owners, and police continue to be on the hunt for skimmers to protect Michigan consumers.
They say skimmers can't be seen from outside the pump and are installed with a key that unlocks the pump. The skimmers then copy the customer's card information for criminals to make fraudulent purchases.
MDARD created the above video to show how they investigate skimmers and to remind consumers to regularly check credit card and bank statements for unusual activity. If you think your personal information has been compromised, contact your bank and local law enforcement.
