Investigation Into the 2023 Disappearance

Weldon was first reported missing in 2023. During the initial investigation, detectives learned he had mailed a letter to family members indicating he was suicidal and did not intend to be found. Phone records showed activity moving north of Sand Lake in the days before his disappearance before the signal stopped.

Authorities searched multiple areas across Kent County and nearby northern counties, reviewed digital evidence, and followed up on tips during the investigation. The wooded area where Weldon was ultimately found was heavily vegetated and difficult to see from nearby roads or commonly traveled paths.
