Pearl Jam are set to release their 10th studio album, Lightning Bolt, on October 15th.

It is the band's first album since 2009's Backspacer.  Pearl Jam broke onto the national scene with the release of their debut album, Ten, in 1991.  They followed that with 1993's Vs., 1994's Vitalogy, 1996's No Code, 1998's Yield, 2000's Binaural, 2002's Riot Act and 2006's Pearl Jam.  The period between Backspacer and Lightning Bolt was the longest stretch between albums in the band's history.

Danny Clinch, a longtime friend of the band, put together this short film about Lightning Bolt that features interviews with Pearl Jam conducted by writer, director and filmmaker Judd Apatow, writer, musician and actress Carrie Brownstein, professional surfer Mark Richards and former NFL player Steve Gleason, who is living with ALS.

"In a way, I've always just thought of it (songwriting) as surfing and that the wave is actually the song and the words are kind of like the board.  Surfing's pretty easy once you're on the wave and so is songwriting once you're on the wave but you can spend a lot of days out there paddling around and not getting anything."  - Eddie Vedder
