Lightning and winds of 50 mph brought down trees and electric wires across West Michigan on Sunday night and Monday morning in West Michigan. Consumers Energy says over 61,000 homes and businesses lost power.

Initial restoration work and damage assessment is underway. Some of the hardest hit areas may not be restored until midday Tuesday. Additional storms expected to arrive on Monday and Tuesday may result in later restoration times.
