New Solution To Crumbling Roads Proposed: Get Rid Of Some Roads

The crumbling roads in Michigan have been a topic of debate for years and no one has ever been able to come up with a solution to fix our infrastructure without it costing a fortune.

After decades of debate, a solution has finally been proposed that makes so much sense, it's amazing no one has thought of it yet.  How about we just get rid of some roads?

Michigan Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey told the Detroit Free Press, "We've got too many roads ... maybe some roads need to be allowed to go back to gravel, for instance."  Shirkey made the statement at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference amidst talk of different plans to finance repairing Michigan's roads.

OK, at first you are probably thinking that this sounds kind of silly, but parts of the plan may actually work.  Sure, it would probably be a logistical nightmare to determine which roads should return to gravel and which should stay paved.  And actually demolishing the roads and returning them to gravel would probably be quite expensive.

But, if and when the roads return to gravel, the upkeep compared to paved roads would save the state tons of money.

OK, fine, people's cars would need new tires and alignments more often.  And using the roads in the winter would be an absolute nightmare.  And property values near roads that were once paved and now just gravel would probably fall.

But, once all the angry people move out of the state, we will have fewer people using our paved roads and thus save more money that way.  Genius.
