After years of eagerly waiting for a remake of Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, gamers can finally get a glimpse of what Pokemon Yellow for 3DS will look like: exactly the same as the original.

No, seriously. It looks exactly the same. The game is exactly the same; the graphics are exactly the same; even the music is exactly the same as the original Pokemon games for Gameboy Pocket/Color.

Which, for nostalgia's sake, is great! Now Pokemon fans can play the games that started it all, on an updated system. There are no cartridge batteries to worry about losing, so your save points will work for years to come.

The downside: it's exactly the same. I think a lot of fans expected the same Pokemon game, but with updated graphics, or cool 3D technology, or something. The size of the screen in the game is roughly the size of the Gameboy's screen; the rest of the 3DS's screen space isn't really utilized. Part of the footage even shows the game screen surrounded by a Gameboy Color. The original Pokemon games are near and dear to my heart (as are the devices I played them on), but I think the Gameboy-in-a-3DS is really distracting.

Overall, the footage looks just like footage of the original Pokemon games, which is awesome! But considering how easy it is to acquire the game physically or via an emulator, many older Pokemon fans are wishing for something that would differentiate this remake a little more. Would I pay for a 3DS and a copy of the game, when I already have my Gameboy Color and Pokemon Red (and a Gameboy Pocket, and Pokemon Blue, and a link cable to trade with myself)? Probably not.

Hopefully though, having the original Pokemon games remade on the 3DS will encourage older fans to get back into Pokemon and inspire younger fans to play the game that started a phenomenon.
