New Community Art Studio Offering Kids Camps and All-Age Classes Opens in Grand Rapids
Looking for something fun for the kiddos to do this summer? Or maybe you've always wanted to take an art class. Well, a new community art studio has opened up in Gaslight Village.
I'm An Artist Community Studio says their aim is to provide authentic art opportunities for children, teens, and adults to grow as both skilled artists and creative individuals.
The community art studio is now open at 2166 Wealthy St. SE.
According to Grand Rapids Business Journal I'm An Artist Community studio is owned by Jantje Jensen; Jensen runs the studio with her daughters. She tells GRBJ,
I wanted to have a space that supports people of all ages, abilities and walks of life and nurtures their creative spark. I would love everyone to feel confident and proud to say, ‘I’m an artist.’
I'm An Artist Community Studio offers open art time on Saturdays - while it is free, they do say donations are appreciated. The first Open Art Studio is Saturday, July 2, 10a.m. to 2p.m. Guests are welcome to bring their own supplies, or use the Community Studio's supplies.
Summer Art Camps begin Tuesday, July 5. Camps include Paper Mache Mask Making, Faerie House and Garden Building, Space Camp, and Rainbow Camp - which is studio describes this way:
Rainbows make us happy. So let's just make a bunch! We will chat a lot about mixing colors and examine how different mediums work together...and there's glitter
They also offer guided art classes. Coming up July 6, guests will paint the Reed's Lake sunset. Guided art classes are for all ages. Everyone is welcome to bring their own beverages and beverages for all ages will be provided.
I'm An Artist Community Studio welcomes donations. According to their website,
If you have extra art supplies (yes, even the broken crayons), sewing notions and yarn-type things, paints/pencils/brushes/usable marker etc...we can give them a second life at the studio!
And of course, any financial gifts are always welcome as well. Every donation will go toward class supplies and keeping us up and running.
They say more classes and events will be added soon! Follow I'm An Artist Community Studio on Facebook for updates.
