When you get my age birthdays don't really mean much anymore, but my seven-year-old sure surprised his old dad.

Earlier this week, we had a graduation celebration for my oldest boy but while I was there my youngest son said, "you better come see me before you go to work on Thursday."

I said okay and didn't really think much of it at the time since I have been working crazy hours and sometimes I don't even know what day it is, they just seem to run together anymore.

I had to run a bunch of errands this morning and got what I thought was an early start but then, I get a flat.

So now I'm stuck on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere because that is where I live, it's hot and now I have to change a tire.

Turns out I had a big nail in it, luckily my spare tire was good since I had to replace the last spare that blew out after changing. That's a whole other story.

So I get back out on the road, drop off the tire to get repaired, ran a couple more errands then went to see my son.

I come to the door and he runs up gives me a big ol' hug and says "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" then he gives me a really funny musical birthday card about bacon.

Then he comes out with a tray of brownies with candles lit and sang me a special version of the birthday song with some extra words that really pulled the strings of my heart. Then he says, "you can't have a birthday without a party."

From the day I was having up until that moment, a moment I just didn't see coming. My little guy really surprised me and knew how to make me feel special on my birthday.

Kids sure can be amazing, so thank you son.
