A Muskegon Heights woman has been charged with solicitation to commit murder after allegedly trying to hire an assassin to kill her ex-husband.

Fox 17 reports that 40-year-old Evelyn Smith allegedly offered an undercover officer $200 to commit the murder. 

According Michigan State Police, they were contacted by Smith's ex-husband, who reported that he'd discovered that his ex-wife, with whom he still lived, was plotting to have him killed.

Police initiated an investigation in which a female undercover officer posing as an assassin met with the suspect in Muskegon Heights.

They discussed and agreed up how the ex-husband would be killed and the payment.

Smith is being held on a $1 million bond according to Muskegon County Prosecutor DJ Hilson.

Wood TV-8 reports that this is the third murder for hire case in Muskegon County since 2013.
