Graceland May Be Top Historical Home But Michigan Has One In The Top 3
The most visited historic home for the holidays in America has long been the former home of Elvis Presley, but there is one Michigan home that is closing in on that title.
Graceland is the former home of "The King of Rock and Roll" Elvis Presley and as long as I can remember, it has definitely been one of the most famous homes to visit in the entire United States. Graceland is officially the most visited historic home in the country.
Graceland is located in Memphis, Tennessee. The mansion sits on a beautiful 12.8 acres. The public has been able to visit the home since 1982, but it wasn't until 1991 that the estate was listed as a National Register of Historic Places. In 2006, Graceland was declared a National Historic Landmark.
One of the biggest attractions at Graceland is the Meditation Garden where Elvis Presley is buried alongside his parents and grandmother.
Michigan Has the Number Three Historic Home to Visit During the Holidays
Meadow Brook Hall is classified as one of America's Castles. The 110-room mansion is located on the property of Oakland University at 350 Estate Drive in Rochester Hills, Michigan. This National Historic Landmark sits on 1,144 acres.
Meadow Brook Hall wasn't built overnight. It actually took four years to complete the project which started in 1926 and finished in 1929. The home was originally owned by automotive tycoon John F. Dodge.
