Michigan Men’s Basketball Is Currently One Of The Best Teams In NCAA History
While the Detroit Lions' football season has come to a sad and disappointing end, pretty much every other major sports team in the state is playing at an insanely high level. The Detroit Pistons are 1st in the Eastern Conference, the Red Wings are second in their division, and both men's and women's Michigan State and University of Michigan basketball teams are ranked in the top 15.

That doesn't even crack the surface of Michigan's sports teams' dominance at the moment, but one team is performing at a historically high level and stands out in a field of highly touted talent. That honor goes to the #2-ranked men's Michigan Wolverines.
This team came into the season with high expectations but has since exceeded them and then some, becoming one of the NCAA's statistically best teams ever, according to KenPom.com
Michigan's Historic KenPom Score
The Wolverines have entered conference play undefeated after utterly dominating most of their opponents, many of whom are among the best teams in the country. They broke the Big 10 record for most wins by 40-plus points (6 games), and that number could easily climb.

But where the real buzz is coming in is at its KenPom score, a fancy number that analyzes a team's offensive and defensive performance per 100 possessions, indicating their average point spread during that time. The Wolverines currently have a +37.52 rating, second only to the 1999 Duke Blue Devils, which had a ridiculous +43.01 (a team that played in the national championship that year).
What does this mean in layman's terms that you and I can follow? Their head-to-head results with opponents put them, on average, up by ~37 points. Basically, it means they are really freaking good, and their current court dominance is video game numbers.
It's honestly shocking they're still ranked #2 with production numbers like this. Where they end up is anyone's guess, but as it stands, March could be a very exciting month for Michigan fans.
