Michiganders Speak Out on Delayed Tax Refund Checks
Many Michiganders are still waiting for their tax refund checks. Many have turned to social media for answers.
When Should You Expect Your Michigan and Federal Tax Refund?
It's already June, and some Michigan taxpayers have not received their tax refund checks. For electronically filed returns with direct deposit, the Michigan Department of Treasury typically issues refunds within four to six weeks. Once approved and sent, the direct deposit usually arrives in your bank account within a few business days.
Paper-filed returns generally take longer to process, with refunds usually arriving within six to eight weeks.
Most federal tax refunds are issued within 21 days when you file electronically and choose direct deposit. If you mail in a paper return, however, you can generally expect to wait six to eight weeks for your refund.

What Michigan Residents Say About Refund Delays
Tax Day may have come and gone on April 15, but many taxpayers filed their Michigan and federal returns months earlier. Now that it's June, some are still wondering why their refunds haven't arrived. The issue recently sparked a discussion on the Michigan subreddit, where residents shared their experiences and frustrations over delayed tax refunds. Here are some of the comments from that conversation.
The user had spoken with someone in the tax industry and wanted to share information that might explain the refund delays. That is when the Michiganders began to chime in with their thoughts.
Two of the replies appeared to work together as a humorous parody of someone in the White House.
Perhaps if the state and federal government didn't let most of the tax workers go the process would be much faster, or is this by design so some people give up without claiming their refund.
Other users described similar frustrations with the state of Michigan, from missing returns and unanswered calls to being told refunds could take another six to eight weeks.
