Michigan Riverboat Tours May Shut Down After Nearly 100 Years, Business is Up For Sale
A historic trolley and riverboat tour company in Michigan's Upper Peninsula may have reached the end of its run.
For decades, the Tahquamenon Falls Riverboat Tours & Toonerville Trolley in Soo Junction have been giving scenic tours of the U.P.'s woodlands and majestic falls.
The owners recently announced that the business will not be opening for what would have been its 97th season. They say that for quite a while, they have been searching for a buyer, as they aim to retire. While many have shown interest, "the banks are not making many business loans."
The owners hope to find a buyer who will reopen the in 2025.
What do you say? Know anyone who's interested? It would be a shame for these longtime, beloved tours to end!
According to the listing, the tourist destination comes "turnkey" with 160 acres.
The sale includes
- The Hiawatha Riverboat
- Liquor license
- Food license
- 3 Locomotives
- 10 Passenger cars
- 1 Speeder trailer
- Large gift shop
- Fixtures
- All inventory
The Upper Tahquamenon Falls viewing area is via a DNR lease.
Recently, newer stairs and decking have been added. There is also a lease area that includes several outbuildings, landing/departure pad for the Hiawatha and train tracks.
For anyone interested in purchasing the businesses, essential staff are willing to stay on and train others.
So how much are we talking here? The riverboat and trolley tour business is for sale for $599,900.
