Having a day off from school because of a snow day is usually enough for most students. One Michigan school has students and faculty that make incredible videos for snow days.

Snow Days Were Different in 70s and 80s

Snow days in the 70s and 80s were few and far between. It actually snowed more across the state in the 70s and 80s, but schools didn't close as much as they do in the 2000s.

Attending elementary school in a Michigan school in Oakland County in the 70s, students would only get 1 to 3 snow days per year. Many students' school buses would just arrive late when the roads were bad. The threshold for what makes a school day was much higher back then.

In Michigan during the 1980s, snow days were relatively rare because it would have to snow 10 to 15 inches before school would be canceled. Today it only takes 4-6 inches to call off school.

Michigan schools are allowed six days off that don't have to be made up. Once a school district passes the six days, any additional days off due to bad weather will have to be made up at the end of the year.

The superintendent of the Novi Community School District, Benjamin Mainka, along with students, put together a song and video for their school snow day. It's a parody of a song from artist Alex Warren called "Extraordinary." The video has gone viral and Warren himself reposted it.

It’s impressive how actively the school superintendent joined the students in singing the song. Novi Schools clearly has strong music and video departments, as the production was exceptionally well done.

School faculty and students working on a project like this is something none of them will ever forget and show what people of all ages can do when the come together with a project.
