Peak Leaf Viewing In Lower Michigan Is RIGHT NOW
Of all the things to love about autumn, nothing fills me with more joy than slowly watching the trees change color and lose their leaves. Sure, I love the usual fall activities like pumpkin carving and going to a haunted house as much as the next person, but one of my favorite joys is watching the leaves collect on the lawn.
This comes in handy when you live in a state where 19.3 million of the 36 million acres of the state is forest land. But now that we're halfway through the month, the leaves won't be around too much longer. So, when is the best time to view these leaves in their colorful glory? Now.

Peak Leaf Season
This year we're having an "early autumn". Apple orchards were ready early this year due to the light winter, which means a majority of the trees bloomed early this year. As a result, the peak leaf season is also ready early this season.
With all this in mind, this is the best week for viewing here in West Michigan and most of the Upper Peninsula as well. Keep in mind when you're going about viewing the leaves to stay inland rather than going along the water since trees along the water turn colors later. Those trees would be better the week of the 21st.
