
How Happy Are Michiganders? New Study Reveals All
If you’ve lived in Michigan long enough, you know the drill: one day it’s 75 degrees and sunny, the next day it’s snowing (okay, maybe not today, but you get the idea). Turns out our mood swings don’t end with the weather.

If you've been feeling "meh", you're not imaging it. WalletHub just crunched the numbers to figure out which states are happiest, and Michigan… well, we’re definitely closer to the bottom than the top.

The study looked at 30 indicators of happiness, from depression rates to job satisfaction to community engagement. Then it grouped them into three categories:
- Emotional & Physical Well-Being – This looks at how good people feel day to day, including mental health, physical health, life expectancy, depression rates, and social connections. Basically, how happy and healthy we are overall.
- Work Environment – How our jobs and finances affect happiness, from hours worked and commute times to job security, income, and stress levels at work.
- Community & Environment – How connected and satisfied we are with where we live, including volunteerism, safety, leisure time, and even weather.

Overall Michigan came in as the 35th happiest state. So yeah, we're pretty bummed.
Michigan’s scores: Emotional & Physical Well-Being: 34th, Work Environment: 43rd, Community & Environment: 12th. Our total score: 47.07. So while it sounds like our work days are pretty rough, at least our neighborhoods and communities make up for some of the gloom.

By comparison, Hawaii snagged the top spot with a total score of 65.50. They're really crushing it in the wellness department, coming it at No. 2 overall. In terms of work, Hawaii landed at 16, and 13 in feelings about community.
The saddest state? According to Wallethub, it's West Virginia. Check out the full ranking here.
