
Michigan Ranked Among Top States for Singles in 2026
How would YOU rate Michigan for singles? From talking to single friends and seeing posts online... I feel the frustration. Sounds like lots of single folks are over the apps and struggling to find a quality partner. So I guess what we can take from this new study is... it could be worse? And maybe Michigan is more date-friendly than we give it credit for.

A new study from finance website WalletHub suggests that dating success is not just about personality, interests, or chemistry. Things like cost of living, job stability, and how many other singles are nearby can all influence how easy it is to meet someone and actually go on dates.
How WalletHub Evaluates Dating in Every State
To figure out which states are best (and worst) for singles, WalletHub compared all 50 states across three main categories: dating economics, dating opportunities, and romance and fun.

They looked at nearly 30 data points, including the share of single adults, online dating activity, household income, job growth, average beer and wine prices, and the number of restaurants, attractions, and music festivals per capita.
How Michigan Ranks for Single People
So how did Michigan do? The Mitten State ranked No. 11 overall on WalletHub’s list of the best states for singles, with a score of 55.2. Michigan performed strongest in dating opportunities, where it ranked No. 9, reflecting a healthy share of single adults and strong interest in dating.
The state landed at No. 12 for romance and fun, while dating economics ranked lower at No. 28, where factors like affordability, credit scores, and unemployment come into play.

Other Midwest states that finished even higher on the list include Illinois at No. 5, Wisconsin at No. 6, Ohio at No. 9, and Minnesota at No. 10.

The Best and Worst States for Singles
At the top of the rankings, WalletHub named Florida the best state for singles overall, thanks to high scores in dating opportunities and romance and fun. On the other end of the spectrum, West Virginia ranked last, earning the lowest overall score in the study.
