Michigan led the nation with a 32 cents per gallon jump over last week, but it's still pretty darn low.

That mark is still 99 cents per gallon cheaper than a year ago at this time.

Low travel due to the novel coronavirus meant less demand for gas, driving the price down, in addition to world wide price drops earlier this year.

The reopening of the state will mean more demand and probably will increase the price further as we progress toward the peak driving months of the summer.

In Grand Rapids, the Northeast side is seeing higher prices as of this morning, with the Exxon on Northland Drive being the cheapest at $1.75. Most other city pumps are reporting prices at or around 1.85.

The lowest price in the GR metro is in Sparta at the All American Country Store which was still at 1.56 as of Tuesday morning, May 12.
