This week's report from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services shows that statewide reports of flu-like symptoms are down for the first time since January.

The MDHHS weekly flu report is compiled from data gathered from doctor's offices and hospitals.

The southeast region of the Michigan continues to see rising levels of the flu, while the rest of Michigan saw decreasing levels.

In Michigan, there have been 223 positive lab results for the flu. 177 of those positive lab results have indicated the H1N1 strain of the flu. There have been 357 hospitalizations due to severe flu illness this season.

The CDC reports that this year's flu shot is 59 percent effective overall and 51 percent effective against H1N1.
