Michigan offers many great camping options, including 103 state parks with campsites. The campgrounds range from rustic sites to full RV hookups with showers and additional amenities.

It has been three years since Michigan state parks raised the campsite rates, and that will change on August 1, 2025.

According to the Department of Natural Resources, camping and overnight lodging fees will be rising before summer ends. The DNR's reasoning is based on fixed costs for utilities, equipment replacement, and staff.

Below is a breakdown of the DNR's new camping rates for Michigan state parks:

  • State park modern and semi-modern campsites will increase between $4 and $10 per night (ie. $26 to $45 per night).
  • State park overnight lodging rates will range from $60 to $120 per night, with deluxe lodging $160 per night.
  • Modern lodges with bedrooms, fully furnished and a full bathroom, will undergo a phased rate increase over the next two years, bringing the nightly base rate of $236 by 2027.
  • The DNR will be establishing fees for intermittent camping and equipment storage.
  • There will be no fee increases for rustic campsites in state parks or state forest campgrounds.

There was no mention in the DNR press release about pre-booked campsites that were paid for before August 1, 2025. If you have already booked and paid for your stay, you may want to double-check if the rate increase will affect your stay.
