Some Michiganders look forward to Christmas, Thanksgiving, or even their birthday as their favorite holiday. Others view October 1st as their favorite holiday.

Since I was a teenager, October 1st has been the day I look forward to. The leaves are changing, the weather is cooling off, the deer are on the move, and archery season begins.

Wednesday, October 1, 2025, is Michigan's opening day for archery season for whitetail deer. Hunters can shoot a doe or a buck with the season lasting until November 14. Bow season pauses for a couple of weeks during firearm season, but resumes from December 1 through January 1, 2026. Check the DNR rules for the extended archery season that allows hunters in some counties to hunt until January 31, 2026.
