Michigan Man Shoots At Officer In Police Lobby, Winds Up Dead Himself
You would think a police station lobby would be one of the safest places an officer or citizen could be but that was not the case for one Michigan police department.
Dearborn Police Station
It's not every day you see police crime scene tape around the police station but that is exactly what you see in the picture above of the Dearborn, Michigan, police department.
While most people were either Christmas shopping or watching the Lions game this past Sunday afternoon, a man with a history of mental health issues steals a gun, then an hour later drives to the Dearborn Police Station, parks his car outside, then enters the building, and attempts to shoot officers.
The Shooter And Motive
His name is Ali Naji, he is 33 years old and lives in Dearborn, Michigan. His family was very aware of his mental health issues and had been helping Naji for a long time.
According to WXYZ Naji entered the building, and attempted to fire his gun at an officer. Naji's 9-millimeter handgun had a problem and while he was trying to fix the problem the police officer returned fire. Naji later died at the hospital from his injuries. No officers were injured in the shooting.
At this time the Michigan State Police say they don't have a motive for Naji to come in and randomly shoot at the officers but are still investigating the shooting.
