Mastodon, Gojira + More Comment on the Death of Manager Nick John
Over the weekend, it was revealed that longtime music manager Nick John had died after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Mastodon's Brent Hinds was among the first to confirm the news, but in the time since the band, as well as another of John's clients -- Gojira -- issued their official statements on the matter.
"Thank you for your guidance, your wisdom, your never ending hard work and dedication to Mastodon, always pushing and reaching turning over every stone to make sure we were always protected and always had every opportunity any of us could dream of. Thank you for making yourself available morning noon and night to handle every crisis or situation that ever came up. Thank you for being so passionate and believing in us with such enthusiasm that we considered you part of the band. Thank you for your calm demeanor, your level head and your sharp sense of humor. Thank you for showing all of us how to work our phones and computers with incredible patience via NJ solutions. Thank you for your smile and your infectious laugh but most of all, thank you for your unconditional love and friendship, we love you very much and are going to miss you more than we know," stated the band, ending their post by saying, "We love you Nick John. RIP. Sending love and strength to his wife @theoriginalleen who is also a dear friend of ours. We love you @Colleen! #nickjohn #bestdudeever"
Mastodon had been scheduled to play a brief tour with Dinosaur Jr., but revealed last week that they were calling off the run "due to a critical situation of a member of the Mastodon family." The band also posted the news report about John's passing, which spoke of John's 20+ years of service with Rick Sales Entertainment, his executive producer credits for four Slayer albums and his involvement in helping to develop the careers of Mastodon and Gojira.
Gojira also offered their tribute via social media, adding, "We lost an exceptional human being this morning. Our manager and dear friend Nick John. We carry him in our hearts. Our thoughts go to Colleen John, his wife and to all who loved him. 🖤."
