Earlier this year, a popular, family-owned Mexican restaurant in Grand Rapids' Creston neighborhood was forced to close, at least temporarily.

After eight years in business, the situation came as a shock to the Oliveros, the owners of La Huasteca.

In April, they announced to Facebook that their landlord had decided to not renew their lease and told them they must move out within the month. Prior to that, they'd expected to continue on at the location at 1811 Plainfield Ave NE.

The family said,

Unfortunately our landlord didn’t want to offer us a new lease and wants us to move out in one month. We are looking for another location ASAP! If you know of any place available, please help us and let us know.

Seeking to stay in the Creston neighborhood, the family started a GoFundMe and the community stepped up to support them.

In September, the Oliveros shared they had found a new location and were working to reopen the restaurant under a new name. It would be called Iker's Tacos in honor of their 9-year-old son, Iker, who passed away unexpectedly last year.

Now, Iker's Tacos is set to open at 1634 Coit Avenue.

A post to Facebook reads,

After 7 long months we are back. Thank you for your love & support, this was only possible because of you . Over 8 years we had amazing friends and customers and they turned into family. We know our son is proud and with a big smile next to God. You guys are amazing, you made this possible.
