Earlier this year we shared with you that a popular, family-owned Mexican restaurant in Grand Rapids' Creston neighborhood was forced to close, at least temporarily.

After eight years in business, the situation came as a shock to the Oliveros, the owners of La Huasteca.

In April, they announced to Facebook that their landlord had decided to not renew their lease and told them they must move out within the month. Prior to that, they expected to continue on at the location at 1811 Plainfield Ave NE.

The family said,

Unfortunately our landlord didn’t want to offer us a new lease and wants us to move out in one month. We are looking for another location ASAP! If you know of any place available, please help us and let us know.

It sounds like the Oliveros have found a new location. According to WZZM-13 the address is1634 Coit Avenue. They are now fundraising in the hopes of being able to reopen.

According to the GoFundMe,

We been looking for a new location for almost 5 months. We finally have the opportunity to move into a new location here in the Creston neighborhood, but unfortunately we don’t have enough money to pay for the move-in expenses... We would be so grateful if you could help us and our family, any little donation would be greatly appreciated.

Having to suddenly shutdown their restaurant and search for a new location is not the only hardship the family has faced.

Last year, the Oliveros 9-year-old son Iker passed away unexpectedly. They have to decided to rename the restaurant Iker's Tacos in his honor.

The family says,

Our beautiful son passed away on a Monday, so when we Open, Mondays kids will eat for free, in honor of our beloved son. Same family, same recipes, same food, just a different name.

Follow the restaurant on Facebook for updates.
