Kid Rock A Racist?

From the associated press comes this story out of Detroit.  Seems because Kid Rock uses the Confederate flag in some of his performances, he's been deemed a racist.

Kid Rock is scheduled to receive the Great Expectations Award from the Detroit chapter of the NAACP on May 1st and many aren't happy with the award being given to someone who uses props that are symbolic to racism.  The Detroit NAACP defends Kid Rock award selection.

DETROIT (AP) -- The president of the Detroit NAACP is defending the branch's decision to honor musician and singer Kid Rock at the civil rights organization's annual fundraiser.

The Rev. Wendell Anthony said Tuesday at a press conference that Kid Rock is not a racist, despite his use of the Confederate flag during performances.

Political consultant Adolph Mongo says the flag is a symbol of hatred and racism and that he is planning a boycott of the May 1 Fight for Freedom Fund Dinner at Cobo Center where Kid Rock is scheduled to receive the chapter's Great Expectations Award.

Anthony said Kid Rock is expected to speak about the controversy at the event.

Anthony also announced Tuesday that U.S. Rep. John Lewis of Georgia will deliver the keynote address at the dinner.
