Michigan Man Killed Attempting To Rescue Dog From Abusive Neighbor
A Michigan man was beaten to death attempting to save a dog from an abusive neighbor.
The horrific incident happened on Christmas Eve in Madison Heights. According to the New York Post, Robert Cavanaugh was riding his bike when he saw the dog being abused. He attempted to intervene and save the dog when the man beating the dog, turned on him.
FOX 2 News is reporting that investigators speculate (at this time) that Cavanaugh's cause of death is likely blunt force trauma. Rodney Beasley, 68, is the accused assailant.
Cavanaugh's sister, Jane Thompson, said her brother, who friends and family called Bobby, was a kind-hearted person and animal lover.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to honor Robert 'Bobby' Cavanaugh with a proper funeral. The goal of $4000 has been greatly surpassed, at this time, donations have reached over $29,000.
A portion of the GoFundMe page, set up by Jane Thompson, reads as follows,
Bobby was beaten to death with a pipe this man is a repeated felon, and has been released from 2 different long term prison sentences. Bobby had a heart of gold and would do whatever he could to help the community in any way that he could and would never ask for a penny. He did everything from his heart. He was a man that loved the Lord and always gave back whenever he could especially all animals.
Our hearts are with Mr. Cavanaugh's family and friends at this most difficult time. I will certainly keep you updated as the investigation continues.
