Heads Up Michigan Workers – Sick Time Changes Coming to Michigan
If you live here in Michigan, there are some changes headed our way that could benefit you in the job sector. In fact, there is a new court ruling that will be initiated this year, that will benefit you and your sick time.
While most Michigan employers are probably already following the new policy at hand, you might find yourself lucky and have more sick time headed your way.
Heads Up Michigan Workers - Sick Time Changes Coming to Michigan
Back in 2018, there was a court ruling known as the Earned Sick Time Act, which will be leaving and introducing new policies on February 21st.
Effective on Feb 21st, employees can earn one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Businesses with more than 10 employees must provide 72 hours of paid sick time annually. Smaller business will operate differently, offering 40 hours of paid leave and an additional 32 of unpaid sick time.

While good news for most Michigan workers, there are some concerns of abuse of the new policy, as employers can only ask for documentation of sick time after four consecutive days of absence. At the same time though, the added time does positively help personal or family illnesses.

There are interests currently by lawmakers to address some of the concerns that business owners may have, however, that will still have to go through the Senate and the House, as well as get the Governor's approval before passing a law.
There are concerns of not being able to address any business concerns before that point.
