Remembering The Fun Days At SlideaWay Waterpark In Kalamazoo
One thing that can definitely be said about everybody who grew up in Michigan is that they have great memories of growing up going to the waterpark. No matter where you grew up, there seems to have been a waterpark within driving distance that you recall going to as a kid to go down waterslides, play putt-putt golf, arcade games, and eat pizza.
Probably one of the most iconic in southwest Michigan was the Slide-a-Way waterpark off D Ave., just west of US 131 in Kalamazoo.

On YouTube, somebody uploaded a vintage 1990s commercial of the Slide-a-Way waterpark that was filmed in 1992. In it, it has kids having fun at the park while using language that kids just don’t use.
No, not like that, things like,
In all my years, I’ve never experienced such amusement and joviality.
I wonder how many times it took those kids to cut those lines.
Considering it was the early 90s, eight dollars a person for all day was a pretty good price. The park itself was, as one child in the commercial put it,
Unquestionably entertaining, duuuuuude.
I grew up on the east side of the state, so my go-to waterpark was Four Bears, but many people recall the fun of Slide-a-Way, and an interesting anecdote of the park:
FUN FACT: The slides were not plastic; they were cement. For safety, you had to slide down them on foam mats. Different times. I seem to remember my knuckles getting scraped up from hitting the concrete.
