Warning: Not Safe For Work or Kids

True crime has become a huge part of the media. From podcasts to television series to Netflix specials, true crime stories have intrigued many people, including myself.

Some people are wondering about the true crime stories and legends that have happened right here in the Mitten State.

One of the spooky stories happened only 20 minutes away from Grand Rapids.

Haileigh Vee shares these "Mitten Mysteries" on her TikTok and on her podcast of the same name.

With her Mitten Mysteries podcast, she shares:

"all things creepy, strange, and unusual or anything weird that happens here in Michigan."

One of the stories she shared was about an older man named Elias Friske, who murdered children in the mid-1800s. There is even a road named after him in the area.

In the town, several kids started to go missing. The townsfolk decided to start a search party. But they needed to leave their children with someone to watch them. The town chose Elias Friske.

After the kids were roped together, they were brought into the woods until they reached a stone bridge.

Once they reached the bridge, the kids started to complain about the smell because it smelt like "death pretty much".

Haileigh continues on with the story saying that Elias Friske uncovered the bodies of all of the town's missing children.

Even though the kids were screaming for help, the search party did not hear them because they were on the entirely opposite side of the town.

After the townsfolk came back empty-handed, they all realized that Friske and the kids were missing so they decided to search for them too.

The townsfolk searched along the river and found the bodies of the children lying there. There were a set of footprints that belonged to Friske so they followed them.

When the townspeople found Friske, he was babbling about how "the devil made him do it."

Once they realized Friske was the one committing the murders, they took the rope he used and wrapped it around his neck and threw him in the river.

Haileigh shared that,

"It is said that people have been able to see the faces of the murdered children in the water along with the screams at night. Troopers also reported that they felt like they were being pulled underwater."

Even a woman under Haileigh's comments said she experienced something similar.

"I've been there before at midnight, when we were leaving we heard running to the side of us like we were getting chased out."
