Not long after arriving in California he was able to get some work in TV commercials and TV shows as well as landing roles in several smaller movies.
In 2008, he got the role that would change his life.
His agent told him to audition for the role of Jacob Black in Twilight.
The audition went great, and he ended up becoming a household name.
"I don't know if that will happen for you or me, but there is a casting call happening right now in West Michigan, and they could be looking for you.

My eyes got wide when I saw that the TV pilot was about a local community radio station because that's right up my alley.
I reached out to Abbie Lemke who posted the casting call and asked her a few questions.
Big Joe: Who came up with the idea for this film?
Abbie Lemke: The film is a pilot episode for a tv show created by Abbie Lemke, and written with Carl Sobel. Abbie and Carl are two local stand-up comedians with over 5 years experience, who are also passionate writers.
Big Joe: What is film about?
Abbie Lemke: The film is about a community radio station trying to stay relevant in today’s world. It is a light hearted comedy with an ensemble cast, so think like The Office or Community.
With the popularity of podcasts and streaming services, radio has died a little. There is a lot of humor to play with an underdog situation of community radio.
I spent 3 years living in Australia and ended up working at a community radio station during part of that time.
Also my dad worked in local Christian radio my entire childhood.
So I have a lot of knowledge and familiarity around radio.
Big Joe: Is acting experience needed?
Abbie Lemke: Acting experience is not necessary, but weekend availability is a must.
Big Joe: How can people audition?
Abbie Lemke: You can try out by emailing offairtheshow@gmail.com Let us know which part you are wanting to audition for and I will send you part of the script to read.
Film yourself reading the script and email it back to us. We are running callbacks September 21, 1-4pm.
Everyone will be notified by September 20 if they are needed at the callbacks.
I'm going to audition for the role of Luke.
I can't wait to see how this turns out, and if you're auditioning good luck!
