I truly believe there is a special place down below for people who take advantage of those in need. Especially ANIMALS in need.

Our pets give us an unending about of love and support, so the least we as a society can do is protect them back where and when we can. That's why animal shelters like the Muskegon Humane Society are so important. They take care of the 'extra' pets in our community until they find their forever home.

But, recently they were the victims of a common scam that anyone could have pulled on them, even you!

How was the Muskegon Humane Society robbed of $10,000?

According to their facebook post, they had a simple check scam run on them in the form of a donation.

We made an online bill payment to our local garbage disposal company where the bank mailed the check to them directly. When the check was in transit, it was stolen and altered from $80 to $9,980. The check was mobile deposited and somehow passed fraud detection.

Not only is it a common scam, but it was done to them completely against their will! They didn't 'fall' for something sketchy or take the wrong call, they were just trying to pay a bill.

I'm going to agree with their words here, this is absolutely DEVASTATING.

How can you help the Muskegon Humane Society?

While it may seem like a great time to grab your pitch forks and torches to try to find some thieves who stole from puppies, there is a more productive way you can help them recoup the money they've lost. Donations!

You can either make a monetary donation via their website (Which helps them put funds to use in the most efficient way!) they also have an Amazon wishlist, so if you have an extra giftcard thanks to the holidays and no idea how to use it, here's a great way you too can give back.
