From Gridiron to Golden Roses: Mel Owens’ Journey to The Golden Bachelor
A lot of guys I know would never watch a show like The Bachelor or The Bachelorette.

For the longest time, I felt the same way they did—that was until I watched The Golden Bachelor with my wife Lindsey, and I started bawling my eyes out as if I were chopping onions.
If you're not familiar with The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, the shows focuses on a man or woman looking for love and slowly narrowing it down to the final few people, and then making a tough decision to propose or not.
Along the way, there are usually some heartstring moments that make you tear up and root for a certain person.
But with The Golden Bachelor, it's ramped up to 10.
Almost every one of the men or women on this show has lost a partner they loved for most of their life and are now putting themselves out there again in very vulnerable positions in the hopes of finding someone they can love.
With that said, I've been hooked and love watching the show, and now there's an even bigger reason to watch this season.
The Golden Bachelor for this season is Mel Owens, a former Michigan Wolverine, NFL player, and Michigan native.
Mel Owens Picked for Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor
Mel Owens was born in Detroit, Michigan. After high school, Owens played college football at the University of Michigan from 1977 to 1980 under coach Bo Schembechler.
He then went pro after being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1981.
After eight seasons, he retired and transitioned into becoming a lawyer.
