Tragic ORV Crash Claims Life of Forest Hills Eastern Student Days Before School Starts

Just days before the school year was slated to begin, the Forest Hills Eastern community is mourning the loss of student.

17-year-old Luke Kooistra was entering his senior year at Forest Hills Eastern, but tragically died early Sunday morning in an off-road vehicle crash.

Kooistra and five other people were on the side by side when it rolled over killing him and leaving everyone else uninjured.

The 18-year-old from Ada who was driving at the time of the accident was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death.

Forest Hills Eastern Athletics posted a tribute to Kooistra who was a leader the boys lacrosse team, and played other sports over the years.

He was a cherished member of our community. He radiated kindness, brought enthusiasm and warmth wherever he went, and had a special ability to make others feel seen, welcomed, and valued. His joyful spirit and caring heart touched his classmates, teammates, teachers, and coaches.

 

With students set to return to Forest Hills Eastern on Tuesday 8/24, administration officials made changes to the orientation schedule.

The planned class meetings for Juniors and Seniors have been canceled.

Both counselors and social workers are available for students to talk with at this incredibly sad time.

If students want to be with each other and show support in their own space, the school said that it will open Hawk Stadium.
