If you are anything like me, Cat Lovers Week is basically a built-in excuse to spend as much time as possible with furry friends. Thankfully, there are a few unique opportunities right now for cat fans to do exactly that without driving all over the state.

First up, one of the obvious spots for celebrating is Holland Cat Cove. This cozy cat lounge has a few special events happening this week that feel tailor-made for anyone who thinks every day should be National Cat Day.

You can join in for restorative yoga with cats tonight, where you stretch, breathe, and pet fluffy pals for an hour while you find your zen. Later in the week, there’s a Cats and Colors painting class where you paint on canvas surrounded by adoptable cats and plenty of purrs. And to round things out, they’re hosting Tabbies and Trivia night this Sunday to test your feline knowledge and maybe win a prize while playing with cats.

If you want more opportunities beyond Cat Cove, Grand Rapids itself has a couple of places that cater to cat enthusiasts year-round. Happy Cat Cafe is downtown’s own cat cafe where you can sip coffee or tea, cuddle with adoptable rescue cats, and make new furry friends. They host a variety of themed events throughout the year, like cat yoga and painting nights.

And if you’re up for a short drive, West Michigan recently welcomed a new feline hangout space called The Whisker Room in Muskegon. It’s a cat cafe with a comfortable lounge to play with adoptable cats (and yes, coffee and snacks too), and they even offer private bookings for events with your friends or family.

If you want something a little more low-key but fun with cats this week, consider hosting a cat-themed movie night at home with classics like The Aristocats, volunteering at a local shelter and giving some extra love to cats waiting for their forever homes. You might even call your local rescue and see if they have any adoption events or special activities planned for Cat Lovers Week.

Whatever you choose, this week is a great reminder that whether cats are in your life or just in your heart, there’s never a bad time to celebrate them.
