With out-of-state relatives and being in a traveling band, Truckstop diners have always been a favorite. Is one of Michigan's best in the shadows of the Mackinac Bridge?

Truck drivers have a job that keeps them on the road. Truckers drive a huge vehicle that doesn't fit in ordinary gas stations. Plus, they all don't drive 9 to 5, and need a gas station big enough for their rig, a place to sleep in their rig for long hauls, and a great place to eat that is open when they need it based on their driving schedule.

Truckstops have been around the United States for about 100 years. They have come a long way from just being rest areas and gas stations. They offer diners, shopping, restrooms, and even showers.

Many truckers live their lives on the road and that is why truckstop diners' food is so awesome. If a truckstop diner has great food it will have the most trucks in the lot. In my travels as a touring musician, we would mark on our map truckstop diners to visit again because of the food.

When you cross the Mackinac Bridge into the Upper Peninsula the first town is St. Ignace. They have an amazing diner called the St. Ignace Truck Stop Restaurant. If you are looking for great food, service, and a fair price this is a truckstop to visit. I stopped at St. Ignace Truck Stop Restaurant twice recently on a bear hunt and the food was excellent. If you don't believe me, check out what people said on Facebook below.

Facebook poster Kathy Scherer said, "A great whitefish lunch too." I recently wrote a story on whitefish and this restaurant came up in my research so I stopped. It was so good I stopped again on the way back.

The one thing I got from this post on the Northern Michigan Underdog Facebook page was there was not one negative comment on this thread. In the online world, this is unheard of which is a testament to just how great the St. Ignace Truck Stop Restaurant is.

The 'World's Largest Truck Stop'

Recently, my wife and I took a road trip from Sioux Falls to Saginaw, Michigan.

Why would we drive 15 hours to Saginaw? My wife has family there, plus we were going to see a concert in Detroit, but the show was canceled.

Since we already had the time off from work so we decided to spend a few days in that 'tourist destination' known as Saginaw. Sure, it's not Vegas or Florida, but it was nice to get out of town for a few days.

We drove down Interstate 29 to the Omaha area and picked up Interstate 80 then headed east across Iowa. Just to the west of the Quad Cities sits Iowa 80, the self-proclaimed 'World's Largest Truck Stop'.

6 Ways That Buc-Ee's Is Not a Truck Stop

Yes, they do share similarities, but make no mistake: Buc-Ee's is not a place for over-the-road drivers.
