The President of the United States has signed an executive order for the Internal Revenue Service to stop issuing refund checks.
Michiganders have to File Taxes Each Year
There are a few exceptions where minors can file a tax return in Michigan, but it's not mandatory until the child turns 18 and is in the workforce.

I don't know about you, but I dread this every year. I tell myself I will get my taxes ready in January to file early, and once again, my appointment with the tax man is two days before the deadline of April 15.
I don't know why I procrastinate filing taxes, because I no longer have to do them long form. When I was in an active working band, I ran the band business and had to file as a small business. Now it should be simple and quick. I have been using a tax preparer for years, and it's hard to break the habit, but I like it because he always tells me about new tax laws and what has gone away.

IRS To Stop Issuing Refund Checks to Michiganders
The new administration in the Whitehouse has been changing nearly every part of how the government has run for as long as I can remember. This includes changes in getting your tax refund.
According to MLive, the new executive order from President Donald Trump states that beginning September 30, 2025, the Secretary of the Treasury will no longer issue paper checks for refunds and will not accept checks for tax payments.

Many people receive tax refunds by direct deposit into their bank accounts. Not to freak you out, tax refunds are not going away it's just that the government is cutting costs by doing away with paper methods and moving everything to electronic transfers.
