Incubus, now in their 20th year, released a new EP, Trust Fall (Side A) in May and have another one coming out later this year.

Over a game of Super Smash Bros. the band shared with Entertainment Weekly why they chose EPs over a full length album, the themes behind their new music, touring, and when we can expect the new EP.

As for why they decided to do two shorter EPs than one LP, guitarist Mike Enzinger said,

"We figured it would be really fun to just write a few songs and then record them and release them and then go play some shows and then repeat that process over again."

Incubus says that most of the songs are written for new EP and they are now in the recording process.

Frontman Brandon Boyd talks about Trust Fall (Side A) and the upcoming EP having somewhat related content,

"There's these re-emerging themes around love and trust and paranoia...Some of the songs are just about love and some of the songs are about trusting in larger processes that have to do with universal love and universal conciousness and then some of the songs are about how paranoid are we-- are we paranoid enough of what's going on in our world? So it's a nice balance between love and paranoia. Which usually makes for a good rock record."

As for whether audiences at concerts are mostly fans from back in the day or younger people who are hearing Incubus for the first time, Enzinger said,

"It's very mixed up. I actually think that a lot of the people who listen to our music are the same age as us and then they had kids. They pro-created. So I think they were introducing [their kids]--"

--"Some of them [younger fans] were conceived at shows!", Boyd interrupts,"I've talked to people recently about that!"

It doesn't sound like there is an exact date set for the release of the new EP, but the band is hoping it's out before Christmas.

Incubus is kicking off a tour with Deftones soon, making a stop at DTE Energy in Clarkston July 22!
