Ice Fishing Tournament In Newaygo Co. This Weekend
If you like the outdoors and want to get the family out for some fun on the ice, there is an ice fishing tournament this weekend in Newaygo County.
I live in Newaygo County and my neighbor Tyler turned me onto this local fishing tournament that happens each winter on the Croton and Hardy ponds called Dam to Dam.
I am no pro at ice fishing whatsoever but I sure like going and trying to find some fish. Last year my older boy and I gave it a shot and although we didn't catch anything worth entering into the competition, we sure had a lot of laughs that day. Those laughs are what is so precious about spending time outdoors with family, catching a bunch of fish is only gravy.
Well we didn't get any gravy last year but on Saturday I'm flying solo on the ice in hopes of a walleye, pike, perch, crappie or bluegill to eat and hopefully something worthy enough to enter into the contest.
One thing I loved about last year's tournament he's seeing all those ice shanty's out on the ice and seeing and hearing all those families and friends enjoying their time together whether they caught fish or not.
Heck I saw several families sitting in lawn chairs not even fishing and just enjoying the company of one another.
There is another good thing about the tournament, the entrance fee is only $5 per adult and free for kids, but the money raised all goes to True North Community Services who are youth programs and mentoring for kids. You can enter the day of the tournament or you can save time and register here.
There are prizes for largest bluegill, crappie, perch, pike and walleye plus food trucks and raffles too.
It's a good time and this year you don't even need a fishing license since its a free fishing weekend in Michigan.
Who knows, maybe I'll see you on the ice on Croton Pond this Saturday. Fish on!
