I Prevail’s Rock Version of Taylor Swift’s ‘Blank Space’ Goes Platinum
At the end of 2014, post-hardcore rockers I Prevail put their own spin on Taylor Swift's "Blank Space," the pop star's 1989 hit that achieved top position on the Hot 100 just days prior. In fact, I Prevail released their version the very same day that Swift's original was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America — Dec. 1, 2014. Now, in a parallel accolade, I Prevail's "Blank Space" send-up has received the same certification.
As of Wednesday (August 7), the RIAA has deemed I Prevail's timely Taylor Swift cover Platinum for moving a million units. Watch the band's 2014 video of the cover song down toward the bottom of the page.
Upon its release five years ago, the rockin' cover peaked at No. 90 on Billboard's Hot 100, and it reached No. 9 on the music barometer's Hot Rock Songs chart. It subsequently went Gold about a year later.
In 2016, amid the excitement surrounding the cover song, I Prevail singer Brian Burkheiser told the Chicago Tribune how he felt when he first learned the band's rendition made a dent.
"We put the cover out, and oh, my Lord. It was the biggest afterthought," the clean vcalist of the band explained. "Billboard, on the second day it came out, posted an article about it. I’ll never forget it because I was … taking a pizza out of the oven with one hand, and reading this article with the other. I started freaking out, like, 'Oh my God, this might actually turn into a thing.'"
This fall, I Prevail hit the road with A Day to Remember and Beartooth for the "Degenerates Tour," a North American jaunt that covers most of the U.S. over a two-month stretch. See all the tour dates here.
